From the article, it looks like your iMesh songs are inextricably
locked to the computer that you use to purchase it (can't know
for sure because the iMesh website is pretty useless, offering
only a link for downloading a .exe file, and no other
information). iTunes allows you to play the song on multiple
computers. iMesh seems to be a Windows only system, where
iTunes is Windows and OSX. iTunes allows you to burn cds from
your songs, which as far as I can tell, does not come with your
subscription fee from iMesh. iTunes allows you to transfer the
song to an unlimited number of iPods. No portable devices as of
yet with iMesh.

---I couldn't even play/access the songs that I had already paid
for until I upgraded the software on my computer.---

I've upgraded my machine frequently and never had a problem
playing iTunes content.

---Even after I did that I had a 128 kbps song to burn to CD,
with the obviously lower-than-CD quality, and the CD wouldn't
allow copying?!!---

Once you burn an audio cd with iTunes, it acts as any other
audio cd and you can copy it as much as you'd like.

---Also, I've heard that the songs downloaded from iTunes will
only work on an iPod, as opposed to other players. Is that
true?---

Yes, that's true. Compared with other online music sites that
limit you to MS WMA portable players.

Of course, I should also tell you that I've used jHymn on all of my
iTunes purchases and stripped out the DRM, freeing them up for
any use I wish. I did this because I send music wirelessly
through my house using a Squeezebox setup, which can't handle
DRMed files, be they from Apple, or from Microsoft.
