You need to add one more thing...
---...I feel that legal P2P is heading in the right direction as
some other services have, because I do feel it's right for the
artist to get paid for his work---

If you really feel this way, then you need to consider more than
just infringement from p2p. The real roadblock that's stopping
artists from being paid for their work is the major record
companies and the unfair contracts they offer, along with their
outright illegal refusal to pay the royalties they legally owe
artists.

As it stands right now, p2p is generally irrelevant to the artist--
they're not getting paid for copies of their songs either way,
whether it's downloaded illegally or bought on a cd in a store.

So to right this wrong, it needs to be addressed on two fronts--
downloading illegal copies should be discouraged, and artists
must take control of their own business affairs and run their own
market.
