Google versus Amazon

---Doesn't matter Voska. Opt in or opt out will not work
because the laws in copyright render it useless. Do you really
think google is going to honor the opt out clause anyway, if they
win the fair use argument? The publishers have the right to
make stupid business decisions.---

Interesting questions. Will Google still try to be the "good guy"
if there is no legal requirement for them to ask permission?
We'll have to wait and see. And I don't see this as a stupid
business decision on the part of publishers. Google stands to
make a ton of money from ad sales. It's smart for publishers to
try to angle in and get a cut of that money. But I don't think
they'll succeed. The good news is that even if they fail, they'll
still reap increased profits, merely from the presence of Google
Print. Other than the bad PR, and angering some authors, it's
really a win-win deal.

---I really don't think this is going to be as sucessful as some
people claim. I believe Amazon has it locked up and google is a
mee too operation. With Mozilla and explorer blocking a lot of
ads, I think google has advertisers snowed anyway. They will
wake up one day.---

Here's the thing though--Google Print is going to lead to lots
and lots of business for Amazon. Amazon is going to buy
Adwords for every book in their inventory (they already pretty
much do on regular Google). The two services are not
contradictory, but complementary. Google helps you find the
book, you click on the ad from Amazon (and Google profits), you
buy the book from Amazon and Amazon profits.
