Other nations should consider setting up their own networks
The Internet is becoming a very important resource for all types of communications. Just as George Bush has announced that he may shut down the US Military owned Global Positioning System whenever he feels it necessary, he may also do the same with Internet resources under his control (or on US soil) which includes ICANN. The EU is wisely launching their own GPS constellation which goes online in 2008.

Perhaps other countries should consider creating their own networks that can interoperate with ours (similar to existing phone systems) which might insure their control over their own strategic interests. Technically, this could be done. The EU could then create top level domains without having to worry about the influence of the US President's campaign contributors.
