And if my own reaction is any indication, the real loser may well
end up being Cogent.

They are a month to month provider, and neither I nor my company need the headaches we're currently dealing with because of this. I'm going to guess that Level3 users are at least stuck with a contract, so it might be harder for their users to react the way I'm likely to, but I can pretty much guarantee that Level3 is not on my list of alternative vendors at this point, too.

The biggest problem that I'm having dealing with this is that of sorting it out on a case by case basis, since I don't know until someone complains what I have to reroute via our backup provider. And even then, I don't know how big a block needs to be rerouted.

This is a real mess....

The biggest complaint is that Cogent did not let me know that this was coming - and even yet, hasn't admitted to or posted anything. I'm frankly annoyed that I get the "regular maintenence" emails from them all the time - but not a single mention of this issue which even an absolute moron could have quite successfully predicted would bollux up the works.

At least we are lucky. We have a fallback Internet provider. And even more lucky that they don't route through Cogent.
