First, if Yahoo wanted the IP (which, to me, hiring the people who developed it makes it clear they did), there are no legal encumberances with an acquisition. You can't steal your own trade secret.
I would agree. They took the cheap way out here. Of course, there is a fine line between buying the engineers and their knowledge and buying trade secrets, and they chose not to spend more on what would not have had those legal encumberances.
And I am not talking about Microsoft, I am talking about a way of doing business that has nothing to do with being innovative, buying companies, or buying food.
