Senator should get educated before spouting off like a fool
A California senator has suggested that because file-sharing networks continue to house illegal files, they should be shut down.

This show's the senator has no clue about the topic in which she is against. Everyone who know anything about P2P knows that the file sharing software companies do not house the content. Thier software just allows users to swap what they have with others.

This is kind of scary. what's her suggestion? Shutting down the internet? Make networks of any kind illegal? Since she has no clue she should just keep quiet or get educated.

"If we don't stop it," she said, "it's going to destroy these intellectual property industries."

This statement is pretty off base. I mean it hasn't destroyed the industry in 30 years why would it now? Even with file sharing, something that's been going on for well over a decade has not cause the demise of intellectual property industries. File swapping networks like Napster just made news because someone directly profitted off it via ads. What of the file swapping occuring using Microsoft technology for example. When the MP3 first came out all the swapping occur in chat software and news groups in which Microsoft provided a nice client to access both. Before the MP3 this was the major to pirate software. People just turned a blind eye to because no one profited using ads.

In the end this just shows that enforcing the laws that are currently in place works. No need to claim the sky is falling.

Any complaints of destroying the industry just make me think thier is an ulterior motive going on here that only we can guess at. Such as losing the ability to control the market, that's what I think the MPAA and RIAA fear the most.
