Correction, they believed so at one time. I do not believe the Earth magically became flat for them just because they believed it was flat.

Negative. There's actually too much information in the world for anybody, even the most intelligent, to learn in their lifetime.

Besides, you are sort of right - we should learn about stuff we aren't 100% sure about as welll as the stuff we are sure about. Just because we don't know something for sure doesn't mean it's a useless piece of information.

My thinking is irrelevent. The Earth will continue to orbit the Sun even when I am long dead.

Besides, I agree that we can teach stuff that isn't known for sure, so I don't think "stagnation" is going to be an issue wink.
