Ah, a fellow Pastafarian
---I am not saying we should teach every possibility out there,
just show that there are possibilities and sometimes where to
look up information on them.---

It really depends on the particular course. If you're teaching a
science course, you shouldn't have to teach things that aren't
science, just as in a math course, you shouldn't teach
conjunction of verbs.

---Greek Mythology really isn't taught much more in high
schools, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't have a
resource for it.---

Greek Mythology is extremely important, both from a historical
perspective, from a philosophical perspective and from the
perspective of studying literature. And it certainly belongs in a
history, philosophy, or literature course. But in a physics course,
you wouldn't point your students towards the idea that lightning
is really Zeus throwing thunderbolts at his enemies.

---Personally I think much time is wasted every year re-hashing
the basics of each of these subjects all the way through school,
and that much more knowledge could be obtained, but we still
need to wait on those who can't pick up a basic concept if colour
coordinated diagram of no more than 10 objects was created for
them. Meanwhile, more advanced students such as myself are
held back because of these weaker students. What compounds
my situation is the fact that I was in a small school, so there
really was no "advanced" classes for me go out on a limb and
excel at.---

That's definitely a problem, and a good school is able to tailor
the coursework for each individual student. I went to a public
school, and was bored most of the time as well.

---Wikibooks are a great tool, and if they allow students to
expand their knowledge in ways that standard text books can't
provide, I wish for all students to excel at them.---

Well said, but they shouldn't be thought of as a replacement for
a textbook, as this article seems to be suggesting.
