Why is the profit motive the only "sustainable" motive?
The Bible has not been the IP of anybody, but it seems to have sustained itself just fine for centuries.

And it, too, has suffered its fair share of revisionism. Take Exodus 21:22 for instance. Used to be that the word used was "miscarriage," as in the Revised Standard Version. Even the poetic language of the King James Version, "her fruit depart from her," was understood to mean "miscarriage" (because "to depart" meant to die). Then the Right to Lifers got a hold of it and, realizing that it didn't support their views on abortion, changed the words to read "she gives birth prematurely" (totally ignoring the fact that back in the time of the writing of the Old Testament, a premature birth AND a miscarriage had the same result: a dead fetus).

My point is that just because a book is on paper, doesn't mean it can't be wrong, or inaccurate, or "revised" to tell a different story, or subject to someone's agenda.
