Because ...
Assuming technology is your passion in life, what else are you gonna do? Sure, you'll travel a bit, and then find yourself sitting on a beach somewhere - but there's only so many places you can go, so many cocktails you can drink, so many movies you can watch, etc.
It's not really the riches that motivates them, but rather the desire & passion to succeed. And once you aquire that drive, you can't just turn it off like a light switch. For people that say "If I had a million dollars, I'd never work again", that is a good indication of why you don't have a million dollars.
