Putting out books is cheaper than music
To make a CD, you need musical instruments and recording equipment; professional-quality stuff can cost many thousands of dollars.

Conversely, it is very cheap to write a book, and publishing costs vary wildly depending on your distribution model. A small-time writer who self-publishes can run off a few copies at Kinko's for a few dollars. Additionally, today, writers can e-publish for free; it costs nothing to compile your text into a text document and post it somewhere.

Now, I'm not saying that every writer *should* do this, because then obviously they make no money at all, but *true* artists, those who write for the sheer act of writing itself, will have no qualms about doing so. Career writers, who want to make money off what they do, are the ones suing Google.
