Enter Darknets, Encrypted P2P, Offshore Hosting
Really now, most of what the RIAA will accomplish could vanish overnight when the new killer app of P2P comes forward.

Think restricted darknets, where only trusted members are allowed to trade and limited users are allowed on any given network (10-100 people)

Think encrypted files on these networks, which would not be loggable by the RIAA and thus could not be used as grounds for a subpoena.

Think Earthstation 5, the P2P network that was hosted from the Palestinian terrortories (do YOU want to serve that subpoena?)

All said and done, nothing the RIAA has done or will do can ever stop pirated material from being moved around the Net. All they will do is stop the less savvy users by implementing a series of DRM-based roadblocks and/or shutting down the most blatant and obviously illegal networks, like Napster and Kazaa.

Furthermre, with the global reach of the net, all we need is a site based in a country without strong ties to the U.S. and we will have everything we need to upload the latest Mariah Carey album free of charge (end sarcasm)

I am glad my tastes in music reach back to the 80's and 90's, since no CD ever produced in that era has any workable form of protection and I can use my trusty old CD burner to rip a full copy of my roomates CD collection without silly DRM limitations and still have a high-quality WAV file instead of a low-brow MP3 or AAS file.

I do feel sorry for the teenage Ipod generation for not knowing any better, but to each, his own. They will never know the concept of ownership of a music album, only a series of downloaded files that aren't compatible with all systems and which could be rendered obsolete with a wave of the RIAA's hand when they decide to resell you the same file you bought back in 2003, in a shiny new file package.
