Said more like not exactly like
Of course I read the article (it was all of a paragraph or two). It said:

"the new Yahoo Mail beta will feature e-mail caching; message preview; drag-and-drop filing; the capability of quickly searching e-mail headers"

E-mail caching sounds like gmail archiving (perhaps not), message preview is also currently available in gmail, and quick, relevant searches are a hallmark of both google and gmail. I'd say that makes it at least something like gmail. As for improving folder capabilities, who cares. Gmail got it right when they introduced tags (or labels) rather than folders. I'd never go back to folders. You are right about there being differences, though. On a free gmail account you get 2 GB of storage as well as pop and email forwarding. Yahoo has been making me pay $20/year the last several years for these. No more.
