- Google is doing cool stuff, but...
-
Yes, I like this article as we just got lost in a part of town I live in looking for a company address we could not locate. I surfed to Google maps on my phone, entered a search and business name and it listed everything on my tiny phone with a tiny map with red hot points to follow and road map I could zoom in on....kinda cool, but slow. When Wimax kicks in with these carriers it will be cooler!
Long story short, it allowed us to quickly find two locations for the business we were looking for as we followed the maps and points. What wasnt cool is the data was old, as both were out of business!
So, its a great concept and definately a money maker when combined with advertising. I can see a HUGE amount of money in this...data localization. The expensive part will be how in the heck do you pay the thousands of people its going to take to manage and update this data as it changes constantly on the second in billions of locations around the globe. Its a data warehouse nightmare.
The dream will be like everything else in technology...automation, but that wont be so easy with every Jane Dick and Harry trying to customize how and where and when their data is shown and viewed. Thats a ten-headed-hydra tech-support monster! - Posted by: wildranger Posted on: 09/10/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
