They are going after each other, but like you said, right NOW
they do not have any overlap in their main cash cow businesses. But, Microsoft is and will be spending billions to crush Google. Google is forcing them to compete in ways they did not want to. They were very happy sitting on the OS and Office monopolies, and now are starting to get streched pretty thin and are losing focus.
