Updater maxed out processor while idle

I think my biggest gripe was the updater that pops up at a seemingly random time just chews the pants off of your CPU.

I was away from my laptop and all of a sudden I heard the fan going nuts. It was due to the unsolicited, random prompt to update. The CPU was pegged and if I had been on batteries, I would have been dead in no time.

My desktop did the same thing a few days later, and the total CPU time by the time I got into work was over 4 hours since it had been pegged out.

Thanks Yahoo.

One more word of caution. If you just try to turn off the Yahoo tool bar, all of the functions like the pop-up blocker stay active, which causes a major headache if you already have a pop-up blocker. It's much better to just uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs.
