Lawsuit Stupidity

Well, yeah, the suit is perfectly idiotic. Unfortunately for those who still believe that Perfect10 is suing the wrong people, let me put it to you: who would you sue if you were Perfect10 - a group of underage teens who obtained your material illegally and who collectively don't have jack you could take from them, or do you go after a multimillion dollar corporation with money to burn?

Admittedly, this is a simplistic characterization of the problem, but it gets the point across, no?

As to the robots.txt thing: Perfect10 needs to tighten up or they could find themselves on the other end of a lawsuit by the feds for violating the very strict regulations governing the creation, production, and distribution of "adult" materials. Placing such materials in a publicly accessible folder on a computer is tantamount to relinquishing legal control over it.

Others have already pointed out that Perfect10 was not exactly a household name, and its presence on the web has just been enhanced by all this hoo-hah. Now, if they drop the suit, (or if they lose) should Google counter-sue for compensation for unpaid advertising which enhanced Perfect10's revenue stream? Nah! That'd be stupid, too.
