The Virtues of the Closed Gate Community
I think there's virtue in not allowing the technological equivalent of the unwashed masses on to Google Talk. But I think that it's current incarnation is too closed. If they're going to have exclusivity in who they give Google Talk to, Google needs to improve interoperability with other IM programs. It's one thing to live in a gated community. It's quite another to live there with the phone lines cut.
