Hi, Loverock.

I think it depends on how you measure search results. Google doesn't index more than (I think) 101k, so search engines that index entire pages obviously are better for needle-in-a-haystack searches. But Google indexes far more pages, so that sort of balances out, giving you a bigger variety of information. The thing I like about Google as compared to other search engines (e.g., Yahoo) is that Google is very uncluttered and doesn't glut you with paid results.

I don't really have an opinion about the IM component, other than the fact that it sounds good for Gmail users to keep in touch with each other.
