- desktop search is overrated
- not only are these products like GD and Blinkx perpetually in beta, but they are not very good. Call me old fashioned but organizing your files in a logical manner should be natural. why would i need to open up a buggy, insecure search daemon to find something that is in a neat nest of folders? Windows and MacOS support long filenames, apparently most people don't realize. Descriptive filenames are good. Using a folder hierarchy should be second nature. Using windows search has resulted in more reliable search results for me than any of the current desktop search programs. People should learn to organize their digital life or this "i lost my doc" era will get worse. My 3 rules are simple: plan, organize, and backup.
