searching for music?
While 'other' OS have search functions built into the OS itself (like Spotlight), us Windoze users have to make do with stuff written by others and patched in. I was just reading that google does music as well now (wonder how well that'll go with the RIAA!!!).

These tools are good, for searching, but I think lead to more disorganization, as one tends to use search more than the inherent structure of the filesystem. That's fine, as long as the system is available all over... but if you have to run a program to find files, then open the file, I think that's two steps to do something that can/should take not more than one. For example, I use something called Audiomanage to organize my music. It not only does a great job of managing my music, but also adds itself to Windows, so I can use it from any player - actually, any Windows app - just like I would normally use the program: it organizes my music as virtual folders in real time, and shows them wherever folders can be seen in Windows. I don't have to run a search or any other tool to look for the file first. I just run my Windows Media Player, do a File Open, and browse the virtual folders.

This way, it's more helpful, because chances are that if I am looking for a particular file, I might also be interested in something similar, just like the Google web search. The folder based approach lets me do that, and it looks and feels just like what I'm used to using. I'm so used to using audiomanage, I wish there was something like that for my documents!
