It takes a crisis ...
to precipitate any significant change in US energy policy. But never fear, the crisis is on the way. Perhaps not tomorrow or even next decade, but eventually fossil fuels will become scarce. The word from our politicians, of course, is that we'll 'cross that bridge when we come to it'. And the obvious answer to that response is 'yeah right ... aren't you the same people who are still trying to figure out what to do with nuclear waste?' It is in fact long past time for proactive and preemptive change to deal with the fact that fossil fuel reserves are obviously being depleted day by day by day. But nothing will be done until large corporations start going bankrupt as a result of the inevitable squeeze and then, of course, the politicians will attempt to move heaven and earth to try to put humpty back together again. You can count on it.
