The predicted peak for USA was 1973, it was actually 1970. The predicted peak or World was 2000, we're at 2005 and Opec is pumping at its limit now, so 5 years out seems pretty damn close to me given these estimates were done in the 70s!
UK now imports more oil than it exports, thats on schedule.

"oil reserves more expensive to recover than they are worth"
Its not ECONOMIC viablity though is it, its that it costs more energy to extract than you get out of it.

More to the point, where is all this undiscovered oil? I mean its cute to pretend that they'll find more oil, and that will delay the inevitable, but they keep looking and don't find it.
