Well, there you go Carl. As you, and a few other posters have pointed out, this is a bit complex. There is no easy solution. With your questioning you always seem to want to slay the dragon with one swing of the sword. Things are not always so easy to solve, as your questions have helped to illuminate. I think a lot needs to be worked out. I think the US should at some point cede more control of the internet to the rest of the world. I'm not sure if the UN is the way to go. I haven't thought much about this particular issue. I believe, especially taking what's going on in Iraq into account, the rest of the world has a right to be angry and resentful towards the US. We shout democracy and then keep the world's cookie jar locked up only for us, with a US soldier guarding at all times. This is neither democratic nor right.
I do think that porn should be somehow centralized. This way you could filter it all in one place and be done with it. But the more I have thought about this as we've all been posting, the more I am seeing that this is a bigger issue than just porn and the US.
I do not disagree with Bush and co. just for the sake of doing so. I have no animosity towards anyone that does not have some kind of reason behind it. I just constantly see him underhandedly using a rather simple-minded, but large, part of the country to push forth what he wants to do, and he just wraps himself around the cross and all the Christians just lap it up and follow without thinking. If Bush just came right out and said "I am against this, and here's why" and I thought it was an intelligent, thoughtful, and progressive decision, I'd be fine with it. I have no problem with he and his administration trying to interfere with something, I am just asking that they be transparent and straightforward with the reasons for their actions.
