I gotta find those court cases

Yep I saw a court case (not against Safeway) but similar to what you described. A customer sued to see what information was kept by the store, same scenario where the person got one of those rewards cards. The judge in the case said that the customer was properly informed that personal info/buying habits are collected and the customer had no right to that information.

As for not being over charged, I can't speak for Safeway but Kroger in my area has a similar program. My expirience shows that by smart shopping and coupons (I hate coupons) I saved more money elsewhere.

What burns me is I just bought a new truck. I had not received a snail mail spam from a car company in years. Lo and behold now I get more "special offers" than IO know what to do with. Reckon I screwed up by paying cash? I buy one truck and these other companies thing I am in the market for another. Sheesh. They even spelled my real name correctly. Sheesh.
