I not sure if MS has any kind of monopolistic hold on these customers. In my opinion, it's easy enough to buy a Mac mini for $500 and not have to deal with viruses and spyware until the Mac user base becomes big enough to warrant attention. So, sticking to the scope of the article, I would say MS has to at least try to keep customers somewhat satisfied.
