Music industry gloats over tiered pricing...
... while everyone else wonders how long before they get the message that price gouging doesn't work.

Here's the quote:

"We will see tiered pricing in the online world," Hesse said. "It will be coming out in different windows over time, and will be much more sophisticated than just the 99-cent download that we have seen."

I suspect that the pricing will be greater than 99-cents during at least some of those windows.

The people making this plan probably decided that demand means they can charge what they want when the music is new, and lower the price as time goes on.

They don't understand yet, do they?!

For many people 99-cents is not cheap, it's the highest price they're willing to pay. They may or may not wait for the price to be lowered, particularly because the most popular songs will be the most widespread on the p2p networks. And I suspect the recordings will be of higher quality.

So expect more complaints about p2p while their brilliant new plan fails. Eventually they'll realize who's to blame, very privately, and go back to making money while intensely resentful.
