That's kind of illegal
---Am I the only one that knows students that purchase one hard
copy
of an expensive textbook, scan it, then share with others that
chipped in to purchase the book?---

One would think that taking a copyrighted work, making copies of
it and distributing it without the permission of the copyright holder
would be illegal infringement. If I were you, I wouldn't be bragging
about breaking the law in public.
