There is something about software patents that use open standards
Isn't this part of what RSS is supposed to do? Now if they created their own distribution engine to do this, they might have something; but this looks part of the category of patent applications that attempts to "patent the use of a standard to do what it was intended to do". This would be like patenting the use of pings and traceroutes to physically locate ip addresses. Oops, a couple of companies already this too.
