Not surprising.
That browsers tend to look alike. IE had to make Netscape users comfortable. FireFox has to make IE users comfortable. So, on that you're right.

But I disagree on one point: this is about both form and function. What a browser does also follow expectation. This expectation can be increased by additonal functions, but many of the core functions were probably also in Netscape years ago.

On the question of antediluvian history, I believe that the people who produced FireFox considered leaving Mozilla when work on FireFox began. They didn't leave, obviously, but they might have if the organization had not accommodated them.
Doesn't affect these arguments one way or the other, but interesting.


By the way again, my main reason for loyalty to IE is the fact I know it so well, including how to customize it to my own taste. That makes IE very convenient, but does not give me a reason for deep emotional commitment.
