The notes stay the same do they not
It doesn't matter how you reproduce them. Play them MP3, OGG, Player Piano, Record, sing it, or what ever you still violate copyrights.

My example of 1 and 0s more applies to software. A field I know more about than creating music. Scramble the 1s and 0s of my software and it won't work.

How compressing music work I'm not sure about but technically would you have to uncompress it to listen to it? There by reproducing it to the orginal recording? That's what you'd have to do if you zipped my software then unzipped.
