Not Just a Google Problem

Someone in previous talk back to this article seems to think Yahoo, or for that matter, any other search engine, is any better? Your kidding yourself. Any search engine makes its money through advertising. Advertising on the net, through any search portal or engine, involves data mining to some extent--you are not truly anonymous with any of them unless you use one of the anonymous searching services. Google is no worse or no better than any of the others--and Yahoo is one of the worst in actuality. Read the privacy policies of these portals--the language is written in such a way that it can be construed to mean anything that will be convenient to the company at any given time. You either have to be willing to live with the fact that data is being amassed about you in some data base somewhere, or disappear completely off the 'grid' so to speak. What many fail to realize is that this data mining has been going on for quite a while. It accelerated once credit cards became widespread and has exponentially increased with internet access and the creation of huge electronic data bases. There are companies out there right now,the names of which you and I have never heard, that are collecting data on us at any given time without our permission or knowledge, whether we utilize the internet or not, whether we 'google', 'yahoo', etc. Think about it.
