"Nuclear Option" is a dud ..
So, China and Brazil might decide to run their own root servers and fragment the Internet? Let them do it. That would hurt them far more than it would damage the US.

The need for the UN to try to keep everyone happy, including repressive regimes, would inevitably lead to a diminishment of the wonders of the Internet. Would you want your traffic passing through facilities controlled by the Chinese, Syrians or Saudis, to name just a few?

And, let's not forget taxes. The French already want to tax international airline tickets. Others want to tax international financial transactions as a permanent funding source of the UN. How long before they propose a bit tax?
