Speak for YOURSELF!
Pop-ups, Adware, Spyware, Trojans, Worms, Viruses....they are all the same to me! If you have ever had your PC hijacked you would sing a different tune. From what I have read, you put yourself at a higher risk for getting a trojan, worm or virus when you use file sharing programs, visit gaming websites, porn websites, etc., and by opening unknown attachments in e-mails. Well, an outside source took complete control of my computer and I never shared files, never visited gaming or porn websites, and never, ever, opened unknown attachments. But I can tell you that I had an enormous amount of pop-up ads on my computer, some that completely froze my computer so that I had to constantly re-boot. I'm talking re-booting about every 5-10 minutes!! Then when I tried to install some new programs to rid my computer of whatever junk was on there, whomever was controlling my computer locked my CD-Rom/DVD drive! When I attempted to download similar programs online, whomever was controlling my computer then shut my computer completely down! When I tried to log back on, I had no internet connection whatsoever! After doing research on my PC at work, I would try to manaully remove portions of what I was guessing was on my computer, and once again, whomever was comtrolling my computer could see that I was going for the folder that held information that they did not want me to delete, so they shut down my computer again. When I logged back on and tried to go to that particular folder, the folder was GONE!!! Not annoying you say, NOT ANNOYING???!!?!?!?!? Bring on ALL of the IRS audits, ex-spouses, in-laws and bad drivers, because NONE of those could drive me to the edge like the person who was controlling my computer!!! And I can't even begin to tell you the kind of violent acts I wanted to perpetrate on this person!! And all because of ADWARE/SPYWARE/POP-UPS!!! Not annoying he/she says.......HA!!!
P.S. Even though I finally regained control of my computer by deleting components of adware/spyware/pop-ups in safe mode and DOS, I never felt totally secure after that, so I installed a whole new operating system.
