There's always a choice
It's like websites. If the "extension' only works on MS readers
and the content provider doesn't want to lose a large percentage
of readers, then they just wont' use it.

RSS is still very new and used mainly by the tech savvy crowd -
and a large percentage of that crowd doesn't run Windows. And
many of those that do run Windows don't use IE, etc.

So these leaders of the revolution might just ignore anything
that doesn't "work and play well with others".
