Not that IE is perfect, and yes their are thing IE sepecific. But I am tellling you Firefox has more issues with java (sun java) than IE.

I know thats a startling revelation for many of you, but even in the days of Netscape, IE 4 + actually handled java better than Netscape. Dont ask me why. I have dealt with countless vendors makers of browser based applications utilizing java and all of them them demo on IE and will actually recommend using IE6 if there are any issues with other browsers.
