But MS screwed with Java
Years back MS realised that Java would allow very easy cross platform applications, and that it also posed a threat to Windows as an operating system.
So MS re-wrote their own version of Java, basically to flood the market with MSJava enabled apps that would not cooperate when crossed with the offical and original standard of Java. THe reason Firefox or other apps don't cope with 'Java', is because they are written for pure Java, not the MS version of Java - so once they hit an app written for the MS version of Java, there can be issues.

This problem is no fault of the Firefox/Mozilla people. It is the fault of developers for simply buckling to the MS way and using the MS Java, and it is the fault of MS for behaving in such an anticompetitive manner and attempting to corrupt and bury the original Java concept. They didn't embrace Java, they attempted to break it and smother it - at the expense of all Java development before then.
