PPC is a superior design to most of intels offering, ecspeically the P4... Apple isnt going to the P4 because its a better chip, they know its not. They are moving simply to get better performance since IBM is lacking at keeping their 970 line up to date. If IBM would work on the issues, as intel does, they could most likely have stable running 4GHz PPC chips for apple. They wont do it though because it would cost them more in the time and development for that fast of a pace than they would ever make off of it. And they also do not have a garauntee for the big wigs that it would happen.

Apple has been alive for a long time because they plan for the future. Its not hard to have OSX running on intel ahead of time, and keeping the Darwin intel branch up with the PPC branch, since there is always a chance from looking at IBMs past, that there will be problems getting the chips they want.

A dumber company would be at this point now going... uhhh.. duh... IBM isnt giving us what they said.. and ... uhhh... we have no other backup plans.. so ... umm... well we are screwed!
