Actually, I agree with your points. MS will always dominate the desktop. When they lose 30% to Linux and/or Apple, they will give it away. Either way, they are under serious assault by Linux (on the bottom) and Apple (from the top).

Most people want to surf and write a document, pay bills. Eventually, they can do 90% of what they want with a sealed box with a copy of Linux.
Gaming? - they buy a playstation or Xbox.
