- Your wrong, as you think too much like a techie...

MS's largest customer base is the home consumer. Out of the over 250 people in the company I work for, about maybe only 5-10 people are computer literate enough (out of those that own a computer) to even be interested in playing around with open source or Linux or whatever. The rest don't give a thought to the computer being anything more. They get email with Outlook Express, surf the net with IE, make their cute little web sites with Frontpage, and use 10% of the features in Works or Office. And it all does it WindowsXP
The biggest problem here is that too many people assume that EVERYBODY is into computers to the extent that they are. Not true, and never will be, so Windows will always be the dominent desktop OS.
And you don't even know what their pricing strategy will be. I can get a really good computer with Linux on it for $299.00, and I can get the exact same model from the same place for 329.00 with WindowsXP Home on it. For the average home /office user it's a no brainer: get the WindowsXP machine for 30.00 bucks more as it has an OS I know how to use and is bundled with features, as well as the fact that the software I have will run on it.
MS will always be the top dog in the desktop OS arena becuase of this. - Posted by: John Zern Posted on: 06/07/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
