It will work if it is done properly
I think most people would agree that simply presenting the whole contents of a book, based on a Google search, is unreasonable. But what about showing the relevant sentence, and maybe a paragraph before and after?

I can understand the publishers worried about their copyrights, but have they considered this: By getting a "teaser" of a book with information relevant to the users, will users not be more willing to buy the book?

It will enable users to make a more informed choice; I certainly wouldn't buy a book of which I am not sure it will address the issues that I am trying to solve, and my local bookstore only has space for so many books.

I see this Google scheme, when done properly, as a great marketing tool for the publishers (and no doubt we will see advertisement right next to the search results going to Amazon & co...)
