And I'm not sure why you would take integrating additional functionality into the software as a gain for which an organization should be praised.

Would it be an achievement if FireFox incorporated tabbed browsing so thoughly that you couldn't turn it off, let alone remove it?

That seems to be what you're arguing is the justification for deciding that tabbed browsing was innovated only when a browser came with tabbed browsing incorporated.
