ID theft will rise regardless, simply because there is so much potential profit in it. To think that someone would steal your ID just so they can purchase liquor to their heart's content is taking it to the extreme, IMO. If someone stole my ID and they did go on a spending spree, I'd much rather it be booze than an SUV, mink coat, and 1200 coupons for free rub'n'tugs at the local Russian "massage" boutique.
I feel that the recent publicity about all these high profile break-ins would embolden criminals more than internet booze purchases. They probably feel that it's easier than they were thinking, considering how frequently it's been occurring.
