Yes if...
you do not compensate them by watching commercials, subscribing to a premium tv service, or pay for dvd's you are definately infringing their copywrite.

the issue is not you downloading it- but that you upload it to 10,000 other people while you download it.

the content providers need to get with the program and provide legal torrents for a reasonable fee.

But it's going to be a red queen's race to shut torrents down. they are still completely legal in some countries and as soon as bit torrent was shut down- if it could be- another method will come up (Mute looks interesting as a completely anonymous p2p- there are others).

It's one thing to stick it to the man and take things- it's another to delude yourself. You do that enough you can step over the line and get in big trouble. So keep yourself grounded in reality- avoid getting in fights with people who carry uzi's or have millions of dollars a year to sue you into oblivion and buy laws.

---
That being said- they have broken the social contract with us by doing things like:
1) extending copyright from a reasonable period to "forever"
2) taking uncopyrighted material and rereleasing it so it can be copyrighted.
3) screwing millions of employees out of their pensions and benefits while they keep all the money.
---
So pick your fights and your principles. Realize that most of what you think is "right" or "wrong" is propaganda fed to you by the media machines they own. And don't forget to wear sunscreen.
