You're Right On Target

I have always been bothered by the fact that I.E. is part and parcel of Windows. Instead of providing consumers with a choice of browsers when the new PC is first out of the box, there is only one handy-dandy way to access the Internet.

Of course, we all know that once a PC is up and running, we have a choice of a number of browsers. However, what really is unfair to me is that there are a huge number of people out there who aren't computer savvy but have just bought the PC to surf, email, share photos etc. There is I.E. sitting there saying "use me!", without any reference to the fact that consumers do have a choice.

I don't fault people for not knowing. For instance, my brother knew nothing about Firefox or Opera; in fact, he didn't know there were choices other than I.E. to access the Web. He is simply too busy with a very demanding job (he's in law enforcement and crime scene analysis) and is raising two rambunctious little girls who are only 1 1/2 years apart in age and demand most of his off-job attention. He simply doesn't have the time to learn about browser choices and just uses what's there when he buys the PC. I can't tell you how many people I've had to instruct about the choices they have when it comes to a browser.

I simply don't believe that IE should be entwined with the OS like a parasitic vine wrapped around a tree. C'mon Microsoft, don't think your browser can stand on its own as the people's choice?
