Firefox will never be allowed by MS to operate smoothly
Quite an asseretion to make and one I can't back up with anything but circumstantial evidence - but, this is a Talkback, not an exam. I haven't run Windows in years and of course I never have probs with Firefox on Linux, the Linux platform, the playing field, stays level. This is NOT the case with Windows. I would remind people of how Microsoft talk out of one side of their mouth about interoperability, while at the same time deliberately "breaking" the compatability of non-Microsoft applications with Windows. An ongoing example is Opera - Microsoft's servers still detect the Opera browser, and then deliberately serve that poor user up with a sabotaged, broken style sheet, so the pages won't render properly.

Firefox is "the enemy" to Microsoft, they have no interest in seeing seamless interoperability between Firefox and Windows. Windows users of Firefox can expect the playing field to be deliberately tilted against Firefox little, often and subtly. It keeps all non-MS application users wrong footed ... That's how Microsoft "compete".
