The Microsoft sales team are out, I see
IE7, when it eventually appears, will continue to be an integral part of the Windows Operating System. IE browsing functionality is welded and inter-mingled with the low-level functionality of the rest of the Windows OS. IE7, not being a stand alone application, but a visible extension of that low level functionality, will continue to provide a handy pipeline for the never ending stream of Windows specific virus, Windows specific worms and Windows specific trojans. Of course IE7 will try to look like Firefox, and who will be suprised if IE7 blatantly copies Firefox features? (Except that IE7 isn't here yet, and Firefox is an application in constant evolution). IE7, when it eventually gets here, will continue to be a pipeline for malware and security exploits, a viral highway going straight to the heart of Windows. Microsoft chose to co-mingle IE's browser code with low level OS code in order to snuff out Netscape, and the ruse worked ... but now they are saddled with that appalling marketing decision, and Firefox's superior engineering - stand alone functionality - will never be copied.

The fact that IE cannot be removed from Windows means that while a Windows user can choose to use Firefox instead of IE for surfing, they are still saddled with every single IE vulnerability that exists. Microsoft do not allow their users to choose not to be subject to their engineering drop offs. IE *IS* Windows, that is what the anti-trust case was about. Microsoft argued that Windows cannot operate without IE. Ergo, Windows cannot exist without every one of IE's unpatched vulnerabilities and Windows users have no escape from Windows security exploits.

IE7 - more Windows viruses, quicker ... just as soon as it gets here ...
