Well yes and nope
I agree with the author's premise about the early adopters coming from the tech savvy side of the house. Boy did I get flamed when I took that stand when all the "Firfox is gaining ground stuff started." I am a Firefox user BTW.

Gotta disagree agreeably with you Anton.

"The need to be safer than IE is beginning to disappear as a motive."

Yes and no on this. The massive publicity has subsided but the need is still there. IE still has some really nasty flaws unpatched. (See Secunia etal) I concede though that the spate of Firefox flaws has hurt them also. I believe too that IE's fate still lies sqaurely in Microsofts hand. Slowly but surely the general peecee user is learning that security counts. If you tell the basic user about function, features and whisles and bells the basic user will look at you and nod quietly. Security they understand. IMO that is Firefox biggest selling point but they better have the browser locked down.

I chuckled and guffawed at the "This is the death of IE/Microsoft" trolls out there. Look I am in business for myself and have seen steady growth in my business for 4 years now. My larger competition is not even worried about me. I think Microsoft is concerned or aware but worried? Nahhhhhh. The best thing all parties in the "browser wars" can do is tend to their own knittin and all this will shake out. Evereyone that is willing to stay in the fight will find their own level or get absorbed by the competition.

Firefox growth will continue on a slow crawl but they need to get distribution through 3rd party software sorta like Netscape did with Corel's Word Perfect or latch on as an OEM install, maybe as an additional install say at BestBuy or whatever..

Unless Microsoft kills Internet Explorer they will continue to see 85%+ distribution. I dare say IE will probably gain back some of the ground they lost due to new peecee sales at the very least. Microsoft's big threat is the next big exploit and accompanying bad news cycles.

Gotta go now. The damn pain pills ain't workin to well and I am still laid up.
