I'm confused

True, the bundling of applications with windows gives them
a huge advantage (gee seems to be a basis of a few court
cases). The best reason you can offer for continuing to use
IE is people are "not so dissatisfied or bored" with it?

"The need to be safer than IE is beginning to disappear as a
motive. Microsoft has given the world a reason to upgrade
with SP 2 and the coming revision of IE, which will
apparently also be limited to XP."

So your position is everyone should upgrade to XP SP2,
rather than simply change browser? Better yet, even after
upgrading they'll still have to await the "coming revision"
for parity.

"If they were worried about FireFox gaining share, they'd be
producing more for the Windows versions before XP to
protect that part of the user base."

Or like everything else they talk about they can't produce
anything at all! MS the gonna company.

"Microsoft still controls Microsoft's fate."

And you've nailed the problem;-)
